The Operating Room Nurses Association of Ontario (ORNAO), is seeking a dedicated member to join our volunteer team.
Position: ORNAO Marketing & Communications Representative
Term: 2 years, commencing April 4, 2025 with opportunity to run for an additional 2 year term.
The ORNAO Marketing and Communications Representative will have the right to one vote as a Board Member:
ACCOUNTABILITY
As a Marketing and Communications Representative and key volunteer of the association, the Marketing and Communications Representative provides oversight over the business operations working closely with other members of the ORNAO to support the sustainability of ORNAO.
AUTHORITY
The Marketing and Communications Representative is entitled to make motions and has one vote on matters before ORNAO.
TIME COMMITMENT
Three hours month (Board meetings, webinars, dissemination of information to the region as requested by the President)
TERM OF OFFICE
Two year term with a two year renewal option but must be nominated and elected for the second term.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct promotional and retention activities for ORNAO
Develop marketing/advertising strategies and materials through appropriate use of various media e.g. print, web and social media.
Maintain webinar documentation on ORNAO website.
Promote marketing materials to general membership and potential recruits at institutions and the public.
Liaise with industry vendors to plan & schedule education webinars on behalf of ORNAO:
Promotion of membership and its benefits to current and new markets
Ongoing needs assessment inquiry/evaluation of ORNAO webinars
Liaise with ORNAO Executive to coordinate website activities in coordination with webmaster:
Update and maintain of membership document archives (general meeting minutes and miscellaneous) relevant within the previous membership year and the current
Facilitate and maintain social media presence of ORNAO in all aspects related to perioperative nursing
Send email reminders/EBlasts to general members prior to registration renewal, upcoming general meetings, association events and call for abstracts.
Update and Archive membership lists on the website.
Create and maintain an electronic “Welcome New Member” package containing:
Welcome letter
Copy of bylaws & policies
Association brochure and historical overview document
ORNAO marketing materials (based on availability)
Per Representative Duties:
ORNAO Marketing and Communications Representative will:
Be involved in reviewing and implementing the Mission and Purpose statements that articulates ORNAO’s goals and people served.
Actively participate in an overall strategic planning process and monitoring of the plan’s goals.
Monitor the organizations’ programs and services to determine which are consistent with the ORNAO Mission and monitor their effectiveness.
Have opportunity to serve on AD HOC Committees and offer to take on special assignments, as this is where the bulk of board work gets done.
Actively Participate at Board Meetings and Annual AGM
Attend Board meetings in order to contribute to the discussion and decision making process.
Qualifications:
Must be a member of ORNAC/ORNAO
Must be a Perioperative Registered Nurse who is working in the perioperative setting
Not an employee or representative of a company whose primary business involves the development, manufacture and sole distribution of products in the field operating room care
The individual cannot be a consultant of ORNAO.
Knowledge of meeting procedures, governance policies and by-laws of the Association
Strong communication and organizational skills
Previous experience:
Using website management programs (e.g., SquareSpace, Wordpress, and/or Wix),
Webinar platforms, namely Zoom,
Social media platforms and advertising posts,
Development and Management Advertising /Event Flyer Development using free or paid tools like Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, etc.
DEVELOPMENT & EVALUATION
The Marketing and Communications Representative shall regularly consult the Board on their expectations of the role and assess their strengths and areas for improved effectiveness.
